Cookieless web analytics for Shopify
Add Noralytic to your Shopify theme in a couple of minutes. See traffic, campaigns and add-to-cart actions without cookies.
Why use Noralytic with Shopify
Shopify stores want to understand which channels bring customers. Noralytic shows your traffic sources, UTM campaigns, countries and devices without cookies, so it does not add to your consent requirements.
It is especially useful next to Shopify's own reports when you want a simple, real-time view of what visitors are doing.
- No cookies, no local storage and no stored IP addresses, so analytics alone does not need a consent banner.
- A tracking script under 1 KB that will not slow down your pages.
- Real-time stats, top pages, sources, countries, devices, campaigns and events in one simple dashboard.
- Single-page navigation is tracked automatically, because the script follows the browser history.
What you need
- A free Noralytic account with your website added under its exact domain.
- Access to your Shopify admin with permission to edit theme code.
How to add Noralytic to Shopify
The tracking code is one line. The steps below show where it goes.
<script data-host="https://noralytic.com" src="https://noralytic.com/js/script.js" id="ZwSg9rf6GA" async defer></script>
- Open your theme code
In Shopify admin, go to Online Store, then Themes, click the three dots next to your theme and choose Edit code. - Open theme.liquid
Under Layout, opentheme.liquid. - Paste the tracking code
Place the snippet just before the closing</head>tag and save. - Publish and test
Visit your store in a private window and check the real-time view in Noralytic.
Check that tracking works
- Open your website
Use a private browser window so extensions and your login do not interfere. - Open the Noralytic real-time view
In your Noralytic dashboard, open your website and go to Realtime. - Look for your visit
Your page view should appear within a few seconds. Click through a few pages to see each one counted.
Track custom events on Shopify
Count products added to the cart with a small script in your theme.
document.addEventListener('submit', function (event) {
if (event.target.matches('form[action*="/cart/add"]')) {
pa.track({ name: 'add_to_cart' });
}
});
Events appear in your Events report. A value and a unit are optional, for example pa.track({ name: 'purchase', value: 49.9, unit: 'EUR' }).
Exclude your own visits and bots
To keep your numbers clean, open your website settings in Noralytic and add your own IP address under excluded IP addresses. Make sure bot filtering is enabled so known crawlers are ignored.
Troubleshooting
- Checkout pages: on most Shopify plans, scripts added to your theme do not run inside the checkout. Use add-to-cart events as your conversion signal.
- Theme updates: if you switch themes, add the code to the new theme.liquid as well.
- No data after a few minutes? Confirm that the domain in Noralytic matches your website exactly, and that the script appears in the page source.
- Ad blockers: some blockers hide analytics scripts. Test in a private window without extensions.
- Content Security Policy: if you use one, allow
noralytic.comas a script and connection source.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a plugin or app to use Noralytic with Shopify?
No. Noralytic works with a single line of code, so you do not need a dedicated app or plugin.
Does Noralytic need a cookie banner on Shopify?
Noralytic itself does not use cookies, so analytics alone does not require a consent banner. Other tools on your site, such as advertising or social widgets, may still need one.
Does Noralytic work on Shopify checkout pages?
Shopify restricts custom scripts in the checkout on most plans, so Noralytic tracks your storefront. Use add-to-cart events to measure shopping intent.
Can I track Shopify campaigns with Noralytic?
Yes. Tag your links with UTM parameters, for example with our free UTM builder, and the campaign shows up in your Campaigns report.
Is Noralytic free to use with Shopify?
Yes. Noralytic has a free plan with 10,000 pageviews per month for one website, and paid plans start at €8.99 per month.
